The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts the Group D exam to fill Level-1 vacancies in Indian Railways, including posts like Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Pointsman, Assistant Loco Shed, and Helpers.

The exam targets 10th-pass candidates aged 18–36 years, offering a stable government job. The selection process includes a single-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification, and Medical Examination.

The RRB Group D exam consists of multiple stages, with the CBT being the primary written test. Below is the detailed exam pattern.

Computer-Based Test (CBT)

  • Mode: Online, objective-type (Multiple Choice Questions)
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwBD candidates with scribe)
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark deducted per incorrect answer
  • Languages: 15 languages (Hindi, English, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu)
  • Question Level: 10th standard (CBSE)
  • Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS: 40%, OBC/SC/ST: 30%, PwBD: 2% relaxation if shortage in reserved vacancies

The CBT is divided into four sections with the following weightage:

  • Tests physical fitness through tasks like running and weightlifting.

Note: PwBD candidates are exempt from PET but undergo medical fitness checks.

Document Verification and Medical Examination

  • Document Verification: Checks educational certificates (10th/ITI), caste certificates, ID proofs.
  • Medical Examination: Ensures fitness for railway duties (e.g., A-2 medical standard for vision: 6/9, 6/12 with/without glasses, no color blindness).
  • Final Selection: Based on CBT performance, subject to qualifying PET, document verification, and medical exam.
