The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has invited online applications from eligible Indian candidates for a total of 15 vacant posts of Assistant Professors in various departments of Government Tibbi Colleges and Hospitals under the Health Department, Bihar, Patna. 1

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification:
    • B.U.M.S. (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) degree from a recognized university, included in the schedule of the Central Council of Indian Medicine/National Commission for Indian System of Medicine.
    • Postgraduate degree in the relevant subject, included in the schedule of the Central Council of Indian Medicine/National Commission for Indian System of Medicine.
    • Candidates with postgraduate qualifications in equivalent or allied subjects notified by CCIM for Assistant Professor posts in Unani colleges are also eligible.
    • Mandatory internship training is required.
    • Up-to-date registration with Bihar State Ayurvedic & Unani Medical Council, Bihar, Patna, and postgraduate Unani qualification must be included in the state register of the council, or registration must be obtained before joining.
    • All candidates must have a Teacher Code as per the guidelines of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
    • Degrees obtained from foreign universities are not valid.
  • Age Limit (as on 01.08.2025):
    • Minimum: 27 years
    • Maximum:
      • Unreserved Category: 45 years
      • Backward Class/Extremely Backward Class: 48 years
      • Female (Unreserved, Backward Class & Extremely Backward Class): 48 years
      • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe: 50 years
    • For doctors working in Bihar State AYUSH Medical Service, the maximum age limit is 50 years.
    • Age relaxation of 5 years is admissible for regularly appointed government servants of the Government of Bihar for moving to higher pay scale service/cadre, provided they have not exhausted 5 opportunities.
    • Age relaxation of 10 years is admissible for Persons with Disabilities in addition to the maximum age limit.
    • Ex-servicemen are given a relaxation of 3 years plus the period of service rendered in defense, provided their actual age on the date of application is not more than 57 years.

Selection Process

The selection process involves evaluating candidates based on the following criteria:

  • B.U.M.S. Degree Marks:
    • 75% and above: 20 marks
    • 70% and above: 19 marks
    • 65% and above: 18 marks
    • 60% and above: 17 marks
    • 55% and above: 16 marks
    • 50% and above: 15 marks
  • Postgraduate Degree in Unani: 10 marks
  • Work Experience (Contractual appointment in government academic sector): 2 marks per year, maximum 10 marks. Only contractual work experience in Unani medical colleges run by the State Government or any non-private (Central Government, Municipal, Panchayati Raj Institutions) within Bihar State will be valid.
  • Interview: 6 marks (Minimum passing marks in interview is 2 marks).
  • Original Publications in Recognized Journals (as principal author): 4 marks (2 marks per publication). Recognized journals refer to Index journals (UGC-CARE, Pub Med, Web of Science, Science Citation Index, Scopus).
  • Total Marks: 50 marks
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: Candidates must secure a minimum of 25 marks to be eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor.
  • In case of a tie in marks, candidates will be shortlisted based on their date of birth.

How to Apply

  1. Online Application: Applications must be submitted online through the BPSC website: www.bpsc.bihar.gov.in.
  2. One Time Registration (OTR):
    • Mandatory for all applicants on https://bpsconline.bihar.gov.in.
    • Click on “New user Registration Button” to complete OTR.
    • A valid active email ID and mobile number are mandatory for OTR.
    • No changes can be made to the candidate’s name, father’s name, mother’s name, gender, Aadhaar number, and date of birth entered during OTR.
    • Applicants must upload required documents, which can be done through a Digilocker Account.
  3. Profile Creation: There are six steps for profile creation:
    • Personal Information
    • Address Information
    • Other Information
    • Qualification Information
    • Experience Information 3
    • Upload Photo/Signature and Profile Lock
    • After locking the profile, candidates will see the list of Active Advertisements under the “New Advertisement” Tab.
  4. Application Submission and Fee Payment:
    • After creating the profile, navigate to the “New Application Tab” to view ongoing/active advertisements.
    • Click on “View Button”, then “Check Advertisement Criteria”, and finally “Submit & Pay Fees” to complete the payment process.
  5. Hard Copy: Candidates are not required to send the hard copy of the application form and related documents to the BPSC office. However, they must download and print two copies of the filled application form and keep all related certificates/documents safe for verification/interview.
  6. Important Instructions for Online Application:
    • Ensure all information filled is correct and clear.
    • No modification to information is possible after the application is submitted.
    • Upload a clear photograph captured via webcam.
    • Scan and upload clear Hindi and English signatures (size not exceeding 20kb, width 150-220 pixels, height 250-320 pixels).
    • Keep four copies of the latest photograph for future use.
    • The email ID and mobile number provided in the application should be kept active until the final result is published.

Application Fee

  • General Candidates: ₹100/-
  • SC/ST candidates of Bihar State: ₹25/-
  • All Permanent Resident Female candidates of Bihar State (Reserved/Unreserved): ₹25/-
  • Disabled Candidates (40% or more): ₹25/-
  • All Other Candidates: ₹100/-
  • An additional Biometric fee of ₹200/- is applicable if Aadhaar number is not provided as identification.
  • Bank charges will be extra.

Reservation Policy

  • Reservation benefits are applicable only to permanent residents of Bihar State.
  • Claims for reservation must be made in the online application form; otherwise, benefits will not be granted.
  • For SC/ST candidates: Must submit Caste Certificate and Permanent Residence Certificate.
  • For BC/EBC candidates: Must submit a Creamy Layer Free Certificate issued by the Revenue Officer/Circle Officer at the Anchal level of their permanent domicile.
  • For married women claiming reservation: Caste/Permanent Residence/Creamy Layer Free Certificates must be issued in the name of their father and from their father’s permanent address, not their husband’s.
  • 35% horizontal reservation is available for women who are permanent residents of Bihar State (applicable to both reserved and unreserved categories).
  • All required certificates related to reservation must be valid until the last date of online application (August 25, 2025). Certificates issued after this date will not be accepted.
  • Required reservation certificates must be presented in original at the time of verification/interview.

Documents Required for Verification/Interview

Candidates must present the original copies of the following certificates at the time of document verification/interview:

  • Matriculation Certificate/Mark Sheet (for proof of date of birth).
  • B.U.M.S. Degree Certificate and Mark Sheets of all sessions (passed and failed).
  • Postgraduate (Unani) Degree Certificate and Mark Sheet.
  • Certificate stating that the institution/university from which B.U.M.S. and M.D./M.S. were obtained is included in the schedule of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi/National Commission for Indian System of Medicine.
  • Internship Training Certificate.
  • Up-to-date registration certificate with Bihar State Ayurvedic & Unani Medical Council, Bihar, Patna, and inclusion of postgraduate Unani qualification in the state register of the council.
  • Teacher Code certificate issued as per the guidelines of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
  • Copies of all claimed journals/original publications.
  • Certificate from the Professor In-charge/Head of Department/Guide under whom the paper was prepared, confirming the candidate as the principal author for claimed publications.
  • Contractual experience certificate issued by the controlling officer of the concerned institution, clearly mentioning the period of work (if claimed).
  • Certificate regarding being an employee of Bihar State AYUSH Medical Cadre for age relaxation (if claimed).
  • Creamy Layer Free Certificate for BC/EBC candidates (issued in the name and permanent address of the father for female candidates).
  • Caste Certificate for SC/ST candidates (issued in the name and permanent address of the father for female candidates).
  • Permanent Residence Certificate for SC/ST candidates (issued in the name and permanent address of the father for female candidates).
  • Valid Disability Certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format (if claimed).
  • Certificate from the competent authority for age relaxation for Bihar Government servants (if claimed).
  • Certificate for age relaxation for ex-servicemen (if claimed).
  • Permanent Residence Certificate for unreserved female candidates of Bihar State (issued in the name and permanent address of the father).
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the competent authority if employed under Central Government, Bihar Government, or any other State Government.
  • Photo ID as claimed in the application.
  • Four recent passport-size photographs.
  • Hard copy of the online application.

Other Important Information

  • The commission is not responsible for internet or banking interruptions. Candidates should complete the application process well before the last date.
  • In case of any error in the application form, candidates can cancel their application and re-apply, but no refund of the fee will be provided.
  • Any changes made to the profile after the application form is submitted and hard copy downloaded will not be considered valid.
  • Candidates must ensure that the downloaded hard copy of the application has the Application Number, Application ID, and Bar Code on each page.
  • Any grievances regarding OTR and application form can be submitted via the “Grievance Tab” of BPSC website.
