Overview

The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) is inviting applications from qualified and motivated candidates for faculty positions at the levels of Assistant Professor Grade-I/II, Associate Professor, and Professor. The recruitment is for the School of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering (sAIDE) and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. IIT Ropar is one of the eight IITs established by the Government of India in 2008 and is located in Rupnagar, Punjab. It has been ranked 22nd among Engineering Institutes in India by NIRF Ranking 2024.1

Eligibility Criteria

Qualified Persons
  • Indian Nationals
  • Foreign Nationals who are Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) (subject to Government of India permission)
  • Other Foreign Nationals (appointment on a contract basis up to 5 years, subject to Government of India permission)
Educational Qualification
  • Ph.D. with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, with a very good academic record throughout.
Specific Requirements by Department
  • School of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering (sAIDE):
    • Strong academic background with a B.Tech. degree in CSE, EE, ECE, Maths and Computing, B.Sc./M.Sc. Computer Science, and AI and ML/Data Science (preferred).
    • Ph.D. in AI/ML.
    • Proven track record of significant contributions to AI, its applications, or interdisciplinary research in AI.
    • Robust research portfolio including publications in high-impact journals, presentations at top-tier conferences (A∗ and A), patents, and other scholarly achievements.
  • Department of Biomedical Engineering:
    • Strong academic background with B.Tech/M.Tech like Biomedical, Instrumentation, ECE, or ME.
Experience Requirements
  • Assistant Professor Grade-I:
    • Minimum of three years post Ph.D. teaching/research/professional experience (excluding Ph.D. period).
    • Demonstrated research capabilities with publications in reputed journals and conferences.
    • Scale of Pay: Pay Level 12 (Rs. 101500-167400) with a basic pay of Rs.1,01,500/- per month.
    • Eligible for movement to Academic Level 13A1 (Rs. 131400-204700) with a basic pay of Rs.1,31,400/- per month after 3 years of satisfactory service.
  • Assistant Professor Grade-II:
    • Candidates who meet all criteria for Assistant Professor Grade-I except the post-PhD experience may be appointed.
    • Scale of Pay (Entry Level): Academic Level 10 (Rs.57700-98200) with basic pay of Rs.70900/- per month.
    • Moves to Academic Level 11 after 1 year post Ph.D. experience (basic pay of Rs.84800/- per month) and 2 years (basic pay of Rs. 87300/-per month).
    • May be moved to Assistant Professor Grade-I (Academic Level 12) upon completion of minimum experience and satisfactory performance.
  • Associate Professor:
    • Minimum of 6 years of Teaching/Research/Industrial experience, with at least 3 years at the Assistant Professor level in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai, IISERs, or comparable institutions.
    • Demonstrated leadership in research, including Ph.D. student guidance, strong publication record, patents, technology transfer, and laboratory/course development.
    • Scale of Pay: Pay Level 13A2 (Rs. 139600-211300) with a basic pay of Rs. 139600/- per month.
  • Professor:
    • Minimum of 10 years of Teaching/Research/Industrial experience, with at least 4 years at the Associate Professor level in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai, IISERs, or comparable institutions.
    • Demonstrated leadership in research, including Ph.D. student guidance, strong publication record, patents, and laboratory/course development.
    • Scale of Pay: Pay Level 14A (Rs.159100-220200) with a basic pay of Rs. 159100/- per month.

Selection Process

  • Applications will be screened by the concerned department.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a Teaching/Research seminar at IIT Ropar.
  • Recommended candidates will then be invited for an interview at IIT Ropar.
  • For a regular faculty position, personal presence at least once (for seminar or interview) is required.
  • Fulfillment of minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview call.
  • The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates for interview based on higher qualifications and experience.
  • No correspondence regarding the reason for not being called for an interview or the outcome of the interview will be entertained.

Financial Benefits

  • Higher start/salary may be offered in deserving cases based on qualification and experience.
  • Reimbursement of telephone bills ranging from ₹1200/- to ₹2700/- per month.
  • Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of ₹3.00 lac for every block period of 3 years (₹1 lac per year) for participation in national and international conferences, payment of membership fee of professional bodies and contingent expenses for any other professional activity.
  • No limit on attending the International Conferences without Institute financial assistance.
  • Start-up grant of up to Rs. 20.00 lac for setting up research and infrastructural facilities for a maximum period of 03 years.

Relocation and Travel

  • Leave Travel Concession (LTC) to Home Town every year for the first eight years of service as per Government of India LTC rules, extended to all dependent family members.
  • Reimbursement of relocation expenses:
    • Joining within India: As per GoI Travelling Allowance norms.
    • Joining from abroad: Actual expenditure or Rs. 1.5 lakhs, whichever is less.
    • Tickets should be booked by only three governments authorized travel agents viz. M/s Balmer Lawrie & Company Limited, M/s Ashok Travels & Tours Limited and Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation. Ltd. (IRCTC).

Facilities and Environment

  • Medical coverage: Members of the faculty and their dependent family members may use facilities and services available in its on-campus dispensary. Additionally, patients are referred to other dispensaries and empanelled hospitals in and around Ropar/Chandigarh/Mohali, with expenses reimbursed as per CGHS rates.
  • Accommodation: The Institute endeavours to provide suitable accommodation to all faculty. Initially, new faculty may stay in Guest House/Visitors Hostel for the prescribed period and rates as per institute norms.
  • The Institute encourages interaction of the faculty with industry, other research and professional institutions.
  • Consultancy is encouraged at IIT Ropar and liberal consultancy policies are in practice.
  • Professional visits can be undertaken during vacation period for carrying out scientific research work.
  • Facilities for Research and Development activities exist in all the Departments. These are being continuously modernized with contemporary equipment and services. Good central facilities also exist for computing and research.
  • The Institute has a well stocked library.
  • Most of the day-to-day facilities are available on the Campus including banks, post office, crèche for children, well equipped dispensary, sports facilities, cafeteria etc.

  • Outstanding candidates from specializations other than those advertised may also be considered.
  • The Institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill positions in any of the specialization(s).
  • Recruitment would be based on the need in a given area within the department.
  • Political and security clearance from Ministries of External Affairs and Home Affairs is necessary in every case for individuals with foreign passports.
  • Candidates serving in Government or Quasi-Government or Government-aided Institutions including Universities, are requested to send their applications through proper channel or produce a No Objection Certificate from their employer. Online application should also be filled.
  • The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates for interview to a reasonable limit on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement and other academic achievements.
